Common Questions & Answers

"At The Social Lab, we know that every child’s social journey is unique.

Whether your child is looking to build new friendships, master real-world skills through our Floreo VR technology, or join a supportive 'Squad' of peers, we are here to help you find the perfect path.

Below are answers to the most common questions about our programs, our philosophy, and how we help kids ages 2 ½ – 13 level up their social confidence."

Finding the Right Fit

Q: My child has a specific diagnosis (ASD, ADHD, SPD). Is this the right place for them?

"Absolutely. The Social Lab was designed with neurodiversity in mind. Whether your child is 'typically developing' and needs a confidence boost, or has a specific diagnosis, our small group sizes and structured 'Squad' environment allow us to meet them where they are. During our intake process, we ensure every child is placed in a group where they will feel successful."

Q: Do you offer 1-on-1 support for children who aren't ready for a group yet?

"Yes. For children who need more individualized attention or are working on specific behavioral goals, we offer Weekly Behavior Support Services. This allows us to use our Floreo VR technology and coaching in a 1-on-1 setting to build the foundational skills needed to eventually join a 'Squad'."

Q: How does the Floreo VR technology actually help my child?

"VR acts as a 'flight simulator' for social life. It allows your child to practice things like eye contact, crossing the street, or responding to a peer in a safe, controlled digital world. This builds 'muscle memory' so that when they face the same situation in the real world, they feel prepared and less anxious."

Q: What is the 'Character & Community' philosophy?

"We believe social skills are more than just 'playing nice.' Our 40-week framework focuses on building the internal character (like honesty and self-control) and the community skills (like leadership and service) that help a child thrive long-term in school and at home."

Q: Can I see what my child is working on each week?

"Transparency is key! Every Squad member receives a Roadmap and a monthly theme update. We also provide 'Lab Reports' to parents so you can see the specific social tools your child is mastering and how to encourage those same wins at home."

Q:  What is the difference between the "Social Skills Squad" and your Weekly Support Services?

"The Social Skills Squad" is our community club; it’s high-energy, group-focused, and designed for kids who want to practice social confidence in a fun, structured setting.  Our Weekly Support Services are for families looking for more individualized attention, specific behavior goal-tracking, and formal assessments.  We usually determine which path is best during our initial 'Get to Know You' intake call."

Q:  Is the Social Lab a therapy group?

We are a structured social-learning club.  While our curriculum is built on evidence-based behavioral strategies (like Positive Behavior Supports) and led by licensed professionals, we focus on peer-to-peer coaching and community leadership.  We don't provide clinical diagnoses; instead, we provide a 'lab' where kids can safely practice the social tools they need for the real world. Many of our families find that our 'Squad' environment is the perfect bridge between individual therapy and the 'unstructured' social world of school and the playground."  If your child requires clinical therapy or a BCBA-level intervention plan, we can discuss how our lab can collaborate with your existing clinical providers."

Q:  How do I know if my child is ready for the Squad?

"The Squad is great for any child ages 2 ½ to 14 who wants to work on teamwork, communication, or making friends! During our intake process, we look at each child's unique strengths to ensure they are placed in a group where they will feel successful and supported. If a child needs a bit more one-on-one prep before joining a full squad, we can start with our individual support sessions first."

Q:  Can this program help with my child’s school goals (like an IEP or 504 plan)?

"Absolutely. While we are an independent club, the social tools and leadership skills we practice in the Lab are designed to carry over directly into the classroom. We are always happy to provide progress updates that parents can share with their child's school team to ensure everyone is working toward the same success."

Still have a specific question?

"We know that choosing the right support for your child is a big decision.
